NYC FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

“Ari Scott photographed our engagement, our wedding, and our holiday card for the last nine years. There is no one else that we would choose to document the story of our family. She is creative, patient, responsive, and great with our children. Each time we work with her, we get pictures that show so much of the personality of our kids and the warmth of our family. We love Ari and we love her work.”

Families come in all shapes and sizes. Here are just a few that I’ve photographed over the years.

More family photos can be found in my families gallery.

I started taking headshots in 2007. I don’t think I did my first family session until 2012 – and it was for my sister. Since then, I’ve photographed well over 100 families, mostly in New York City, others on Long Island, Westchester, and Los Angeles.

MY PROCESS

  • PRE-SESSION. We can chat on the phone at your convenience about what you’re looking for in a session. And if you’re not yet sure, we’ll figure it out! If you have questions about wardrobe or anything else, please ask.

  • FLEXIBLE. I’m flexible as far as location (indoors or outdoors), mood, tone, look, etc. Whether the tone is more serious or more fun, we can work to make it just what you want.

  • NO CHANGE FEES. I do not charge a cancellation or postponement fee. Just let me know ASAP if you need to change the date or time. If it rains or the weather is terrible, we can reschedule.

  • DURATION. The sessions are scheduled by time, anywhere from 30-90 minutes. (The more locations you’d like, the longer the session should be.)

  • RATE. I charge a flat rate which includes the session and post-processing (which typically takes 2-3 times longer than the session itself). Editing time is factored into the rate. No surprise charges. I require payment in full at the time of booking – this holds your spot on my calendar. (This will be fully refunded in the event of emergency or catastrophe and the session doesn’t take place.) See my family rates.

  • TIME FRAME. I deliver edited photos within 2-3 days. If I’m unusually busy, I’ll give you a heads up that it could take longer. Unless I’m traveling for days on end (unlikely), it shouldn’t be longer than a few days.

  • PRIVATE GALLERY & HIGH-RES DOWNLOADS. I upload your edited photos to a private online gallery (currently on pic-time.com) that you can share with friends and family. Anyone with access can download high-res images directly from the gallery.

  • PRODUCTS OPTIONAL. Absolutely no requirement to purchase products. That said, the site I use to host galleries has options if you’d like to purchase albums, prints, etc. I deliver all images digitally as that’s the way most people seem to prefer them.

  • NOTES ON EDITING. My editing style is naturalistic and true to life. I don’t do overexposed “light & airy”, greens that look gray, or other trends that won’t stand the test of time. I also stay away from overly saturated tones. If you prefer photos edited in a way different from the way I do it, I encourage you to seek out a photographer who edits in that style. There are so many ways to edit and I want to make sure the way I do it is what you want.
